Obasanjo Heads AU President Olusegun Obasanjo has been elected Chairman of Africa Union. He was elected in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, yesterday at the extra-ordinary session of AU. In his post-election speech, Obasanjo said proper restructuring of the union, economic development of the continent, poverty alleviation and promotion of principle and practice of democracy will be accorded priority during his tenure as the chairman of the organisation. He said he would concentrate on some international issues like improving Africa's relation with European Union. Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, has congratulated President Obasanjo on his new appointment as the Chairman of Africa Union, urging him to work with other African leaders to move the continent to the pinnacle of success.
