Abia Assembly Insists on Removing D/Gov From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia Abia State House of Assembly has shun all Peace moves to halt impeachment of the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Chima Nwafor, insisting on his removal. Speaking at the Assembly when the state Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu and Nwafor visited on Monday to further prevail on them to drop the impeachment move, the Speaker Chief Stanley Ohejuruka, and member representing Isiala Ngwa Constituency, Prince Christopher Enweremadu, accused the governor of undue interference in the affairs of the legislature. Enweremadu said the impeachment process which was signed by 17 out of 24 members of the Assembly is currently before a judicial panel set up to investigate allegations levelled against Nwafor. He said people must learn to uphold whatever they say before the Assembly anytime they are called upon to do so. In his address, Governor Kalu appealed to the legislators to reconsider their stance while admitting that they were only carrying out their legislative function. He prevailed on them to temper justice with mercy, and give peace a chance in the state by dropping the impeachment move. His words: "There is no doubt that what you are doing falls within our constitutional responsibility and in line with the principles of separation of powers. It is never my intention to interfere in the affairs of the Assembly. I am intervening openly in the matter in my capacity as the leader of our great party in the state and for the sake of peace and stability in our state." It could be recalled that some weeks ago, leadership of PDP in the South-east, led by its National Vice Chairman, Nze Fedelis Ozichukwu, had intervened in the matter and prevailed on the legislators to stop the impeachment process.
