2007: When'll Solomon Speak?
For about a week now, Hon. Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon is being rumoured to be nurturing an ambition to contest the Lagos governorship seat in 2007. This rumour is coinsiding with a similar speculation linking him with plans to decamp to the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his way to actualising his dreams. There is no doubt that the last few weeks may have posed a significant puzzle to the lawmaker over his 2007 future.
Given this senario Solomon, largely viewed as the godfather of Mushin politics, is perceived to be under immense pressure by allies and supporters to show and subsequently declare his intention for the governorship race in Lagos State.
Although, Solomon, believes 2007 is a long way off, he also believes that 24 hours could change the political fortune of any individual, provided such a person is favoured by the prevailing circumstances and indices at that time.
It appears the Ex-Mushin Boss has chosen the path of caution considering that any ambition as big as the governor's requires keen and wide consultation. Yet, as the political clock ticks away, his supporters are eager to know their fate considering the fact that the polity, is already alive with 2007 discourse.
Solomon appears in a dilemma over his political fate. Though, given his understanding of the game of politics, it is clear the Mushin Federal Constituency Representative is likely to come up with a position sooner than his supporters may have expected. But, whether he would run, work with any of the other candidates or opt for something else is what cannot be ascertained for now.
As for his remoured decampment from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to PDP, the former Mushin council boss is interested in maintaining his name and the political dynasty of his father.
Even in the face of uncertainty, Solomon is assuring his supporters not to fret much about their political fate as whatever decision he eventually takes would be in their overall interest, moreso that their choice of the governorship seat may not be in tandem with his thinking. Last weekend, he suprised his supporters when he asked them what their decision would be if he settles for the presidency?
Obviously, as a political goldfish Solomon has no hiding place as far as the future of Lagos in 2007 is concerned. So the earlier he speaks out the better.
