Professional Insurance Ladies Change Leadership

Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA), the body of women professionals in the insurance industry, has changed its leadership.
The latest change saw the outgoing President, Mrs. Isioma Chukwuma of the Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation handing the mantle of leadership over to her successor, Mrs. Yomi Onabanjo, of Industrial and General Insurance Company Limited.
This was the highpoint of the 30th Anniversary the association in Lagos recently where the new President was decorated with the regalia of office.
Onabanjo attended St. Louis Grammar School, Ibadan and read Insurance at the Lagos State College of Science and Technology now Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo were she was awarded Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma. She, after her national service, worked in the same institution as a Lecturer for five years and qualified as a Chartered Insurer in 1991.
She bagged a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
At various times, the new president worked for Nigeria Airways, Marine and General Insurance Company and Nigerian General Insurance Company Limited.
Since 1992, she has been working for the Industrial and General Insurance Company Limited (IGI). She has handled various portfolios covering Brokers, Maintenance and Direct Marketing. Presently, she is Director in charge of the Lagos Operations, and her itinery covers supervision of branch offices in Lagos. Mrs. Onabanjo is married to Architect Gbenga Onabanjo with four children.
Equally Mrs. Ifeanyichukwu Jaiyesimi, Acting Managing Director of Security Assurance Plc was elected Deputy President of the association.
Born in 1961 in Lagos State, Jaiyeimi attended Lagos City Council Primary School, Fadeyi and Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School in Yaba. She was also at Aunty ayo Girls High School and bagged her OND and HND in Insurance from Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo in 1982 and 2002 respectively.
She also bagged a Diploma in Financial Management from the University of Ibadan in 1996 and and MBA from the Edo State University, Ekpoma in 1999.
The Deputy President is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FIIN) and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII) and that of Nigeria (AIIN).
With 17 years work experience, Mrs. Jaiyesimi at various times worked as Clerical Officer (Accounts) with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. She was Senior Clerk, Assistant Superintendent (Services) and Senior Superintendent at Nigerian Life and Pension Consultants (NLPC) in Lagos and joined Security Assurance as Manager (Marketing adn Reinsurance) in 1994. She was elevated to the position of Assistant General Manager (Technical) in 2000 and made Acting Managing Director of the company this year. She is married with children.
Other elected to serve the association include Tonia Smart of NLPC (Secretary), Ibe Aku of Victory Insurance Brokers (Assistant Secretary) and Amaka Omikunle as Treasurer. Others are Funmi Folarin of IGI (Social Secretary), Amaka Nzewi (Assistant Social Secretary) among others.
