The
Delta State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, mandated its committee on education
to probe allegation of financial impropriety and discriminatory employment
practices levelled against the Rectors of the three polytechnics in the state
and head of the College of Physical Education.
It
also stood down the report of the ad-hoc committee set up to investigate four
members alleged to have plotted to impeach the House leadership.
The
move to investigate the heads of the higher institutions followed a motion sponsored
by the Majority Leader, Mr. Ossai Ossai, to the effect that the Rector of the
polytechnic at Ozoro allegedly misapplied funds allocated to him and also
favoured a certain ethnic group in its employment exercise.
According
to him, whereas the institutions were established upon an instrument by the
House to train manpower, the Rector was discriminating against certain sections
of the state. He requested that the head of the institution be summoned to
defend the allegations.
After
several amendments, the House decided to extend the probe to the other
institutions.
In
a related development, the Speaker, Mr. Young Daniel-Igbrude stood down the
Frank Enekorogha-led four-man committee that investigated the activities of the
four suspended members when it was time to submit its report at the Tuesday
sitting.
No
explanation was given for the decision.
Messrs
Basil Ganagana, Misan Ukubeyinje, Ejaife Odebala and Festus Agas had been
suspended for allegedly plotting to impeach the House leadership.
