“The Appeal Court ruling upholding my
election as the governor of the Adamawa State on Monday in Jos was a triumph of
the rule of law,” Governor Boni Haruna, has said.
In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, he
added that, “The judgment has reinforced our belief in the judiciary as a
veritable institution in the sustenance of our democratic process.”
The governor called on the people to allow
the spirit of magnanimity towards each other to prevail.
He expressed appreciation to all those who
stood by him throughout the trial, particularly President Olusegun Obasanjo who
offered his lawyer, Afe Babalola (SAN), to defend him and Vice President Atiku
Abubakar for taking the matter as a personal challenge.
He also thanked the National Chairman of
the Peoples Democratic Party, Audu Ogbe, the Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief
Tony Anenih, governors of Nassarawa, Niger, Kwara, Taraba and Abia for
personally visiting Yola to encourage him when the election tribunal annulled
his election.
His words: “With a deep sense of modesty, I wish to
thank members of my family particularly my wife and children whose support made
it possible for me to cope with the pressure of the last few months.”
