Re: “We are not quitting Nigeria”
We refer to the interview section of your
Cover Choice of the Friday, June 25 edition of the Daily Independent with the above title.
While acknowledge the efforts by your team of
reporters to balance views in the story published under the headline,
“Oily Corruption at Work”, we wish to register our disagreement
with the insinuation that the Shell Group “admitted that it recategorised
its Nigeria oil reserves, as an effort to help the Federal Government obtain a
higher Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota.”
At no time since restatement of its proven reserves
has Shell Group, nor the SPDC stated that the review was aimed at achieving
higher OPEC quota anywhere.
It is curious that this view found its way into your
postscript to the Q & A, when an unambiguous answer was given to the
question of reserve restatement in the body of the ‘interview’.
We think that this is a wrong impression that should
be corrected to set the record straight, as we express our best wishes.
