Sports Minister, Musa Mohammed is expected
to present to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) a blueprint for a new NFA
that will see the league department running independent of the Football
Association.
Daily Independent gathered exclusively that
the separation of the league department from the day to day running of football
is expected to form the highlight of the restructuring plans to be announced by the minister, Monday
night in Lagos.
When Mr Patrick Okpomo was contracted by
late Sports Minister, Ishaya Mark Aku, the autonomy of the league department
formed part of his recommendation but no sooner did the present secretariat staff assume office than they jettisoned the
idea.
Also, Decree 101 which has received flaks
from home and abroad with world football governing body, FIFA, threatening
sanctions over government’s continued strangle-hold on NFA through the
decree is expected to be reframed to meet international standards.
“At the moment, the fate of top
secretariat staffers who have under-performed is also being looked into and
government will take appropriate steps to either post them out of the NFA or
shove them out completely”, a source hinted.
