Delta Force claims volleyball trophy

Delta Force
Volleyball team has emerged winner of the 2nd edition of Alhaji Bukar Abba
Ibrahim National Open Volleyball Championship for the Female category.
The team which was
attacked by armed robbers along Jos-Bauchi road still lifted the prestigious
trophy against all odds. In spite of the obstacles on their way, the girls from
Delta state summoned all courage, won all their preliminary and semi final matches
before going ahead to emerge as overall winners of the competition.
Delta Force
Volleyball team who are the defending champions captured the most coveted
trophy by demolishing the girls from Plateau 3-1. The third place trophy went
to Imo female team who defeated Nigeria immigration by 3-2.
Plateau state
emerged victorious in the male category by humbling Niger State 3-1. Yobe state
team were unsuccessful in their attempt to capture the third place as they were
trashed 3-1 by Nigerian Immigration eventual, third place winners.
Prizes for the
trophies were presented to the various winners with Plateau male team taking
home N40,000 and Delta female team getting N35,000. The state governor Alhaji
Bukar Abba Ibrahim donated the sum of N25,000 to each of the participating team
in addition the Delta state team was given the sum of N100,000 to cushion the
horrible effect of the robbery attack.
Governor Bukar in
his speech promised to continue hosting the volleyball championship,
saying that “youth
development was the focal point in the hosting of this competition”. He
also said that he will continue to participate in the development of sports
since through sport we can build our nation.
