Ex-commissioner donates computer centre to Lagos
hospital
By Emma Okonji
IT. Telecom Reporter, Lagos
A computer centre and a
functional website have been launched at the Lagos Island Maternity
Hospital.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr.
Leke Pitan, commissioned the centre, which was donated to the hospital by
the International Learning Systems (ILS), Nigeria’s foremost
international education provider.
Pitan, at the launch, commended the
efforts of the ILS and called for more private sector participation in
governance, as championed by the State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. To
him, the launch goes beyond the donation of the computer centre, but
signifies a major signpost in patriotism.
The commissioner congratulated the chief
executive of ILS, Mrs. Sekinat Yusuf, for her vision and philanthropic gesture, urging all
those who have been privileged to serve the government at all levels in
the past to emulate her gesture. Yusuf served the previous administration
as a commissioner for education.
Yusuf thanked God for the privilege, explaining that she decided
to come to the aid of the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital because of the
fundamental role the hospital plays in the life of the nation. Life, she
said, is special, hence the emphasis on women in health care
delivery. With the computer
centre, the hospital would be able to enhance its ability to diagnose and
keep records of patients.
The objective of ILS, according to her, is
to use education as a weapon to eradicate poverty, adding that the institution
has also donated computers to the Lagos Post-PrimaryTeaching Service
Commission, as well as to some students’ union governments in selected
higher institutions of learning.
The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayide
Ogunsulire, and the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Ajetunmobi, thanked
the donor for her good gesture, while speaking on many advantages of
computer centre. They called on public-spirited people to help support
health delivery in the state.
