OSOGBO — FORMER Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande who is currently embroiled in an alleged N126 million contract scam has offered to show up personally today at the state police command.
Competent sources close to the factional national chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, stated in Osogbo yesterday said that Chief Akande decided to give himself up to lay to rest claims by the police that he was on the run.
Osun State Police Command on Monday declared Chief Akande wanted after a warrant of arrest was issued by the state magistrate's court following allegation of financial scam on the new Government House christened Bola Ige House while in office. But Chief Akande in a swift reaction said he had never made himself uavailable to the police.
One of Akande's aides told newsmen yesterday that Chief Akande and his SSG, Shola Akinwumi and commissioner for finance, Chief Lere Adebayo both mentioned in the scam would visit the State Intelligence and Investigations Bureau (SIIB), Osogbo to answer questions.
"Chief Akande and the two others mentioned in the alleged contract scam are coming to SIIB tomorrow (today). He said he has nothing to hide and he is prepared to protect his integrity which he has built over the years," the source added
Meanwhile, the AD in Osun State has berated the PDP over an attempt to smear the reputation of former governor Bisi Akande and two others named in the alleged scam. In a statement, the party said:
"The AD in Osun State is surprised at a systematic attempt to rubbish distinguished leaders of Osun State who had rendered selfless services as officials in the last government formed by our party. It is most sad that they are reportedly being declared wanted by a succeeding government headed by a man who knows and had visited the abode of these exemplary leaders who happen to be members of AD.
"We found most ridiculous, the reasons given for the ordeal of these leaders who have made their marks and given Osun State unmatchable visible identity and un-equalled development.
"The Osun AD takes exception to the manner in which the present authorities in the state have decided to pursue this wild goose chase of allegation seen by all and sundry as more or less as political victimization.
"May we note that the present government’s insistence smacks of lack of reason in that Chief Akande had called the attention of the incoming government to the issue to which they are raising eyebrows."
According to the party, it was laughable and ridiculous that AD government in Osun State which stood for accountability transparency and prudence would use people’s money to fund an election.
