ABUJA — THE Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) yesterday asked President Olusegun Obasanjo to revisit the case of the assassinated Justice Minister and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige, saying the matter should not be allowed to rest.
Though the court released the principal suspect, Senator Iyiola Omisore, recently, Justice Akinola, in his three hour judgment described the job of the prosecutors as ““woeful”” and that of the police as ““shoddy””
Against this backdrop, the CNPP’’s Secretary General, Maxi Okwu who made the coalitions position known said, there was need for the president to immediately ask his Inspector General to revisit the mater, and exhaust it thoroughly.
““Of course we saw the shoddy nature the murder of the late Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige was handled. But that the court made that same position in its judgment, which led to the release of Omisore, should serve as a good point to president Obasanjo to begin a fresh probe into the case.
““We are talking about an important personality like the minister of Justice, whose death has not gotten the desired justice. Now if the court said that the state performed woefully in its prosecution that means there were still many areas left untouched.
““That is why we call on the president to ask his Inspector General of Police to institute a fresh probe into the case, while exploring all possible angles to it. We are saying that the killing of such personality portends a dangerous trend for this country. The case must be looked into again””, stressed Okwu. The Secretary - General who spoke to journalists on the activities of the coalition since it was founded, lamented the level of injustice in the country, drawing particular reference also to what he called ““electoral injustices””.
He passed a vote of no confidence on the election tribunal, which he said, has not instilled any hope in the minds of the ordinary Nigerians, adding that the coalition was writing a book detailing all the loopholes in the judgment so far.
He lamented that the president has attempted to muzzle the opposition n the country, noting that except much was done the fear that the country would mature into a one party system may fully come to pass.
