Anambra PDP crisis: Group fingers national executive

By Anayo Okoli
Thursday, July 08, 2004

Awka—A group of PDP members in Anambra State  called “Concerned Anambra State PDP members” has blamed the lingering tussle in party in the state on the national executive committee of the party which the group accused of inconsistency in their decisions. They alleged that a lot of money had been exchanging hands between the national leadership of the party and Government of Anambra State. The group alleged that the party leadership had indirectly been fanning the embers of disunity to enable them  continue to benefit financially.

The group named as instance cases, the inability of the national leadership of PDP to defend the harmonized list of local government candidates which they were a party to as well as the stopping in the last minute of last week’s congress they earlier  approved. We are really at a loss over the activities of our national leaders. How can they give a directive today and counter it tomorrow after a quick visit to Abuja. We have record of  their activities.

“They sat with the two warring groups, harmonized the local government candidates, only to retreat when Ngige cried foul of the list. They did not care to hear from the their side. What type of people are these?
“Again only last week, the party gave the acting chairman of the party the mandate to conduct a congress to appoint a substantive chairman. The mandate was in writing but few hours to the congress, the national secretary, acting under pressure from Governor Ngige wrote and postponed the congress. Why this double standard? Don’t you see that there is a hidden agenda. They know that Anambra problem will continue to oil their pockets. But time will soon run out of them.” Ezechukwu said.
