Budget Monitoring Unit Prepares Bill on Public Procurement From Josephine Lohor in Abuja Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit in the Presidency has begun preparing a bill on Public Procurement Reform for presentation to the National Assembly. The proposal, which is part of the on-going efforts by the Budget Monitoring Unit to restore and instill a culture of budgetary and fiscal discipline in public spending is also in line with the implementation of the Federal Government's comprehensive programme of Public Sector Reform under the overall economic reforms agenda. According to the unit, two special stakeholder conferences are being convened to hold in Abuja and Lagos to provide opportunities for public inputs into the bill. The Deputy Director (Media and Public Affairs) of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit, Mr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, who made the disclosure, also stated that President Olusegun Obasanjo is expected to declare the stakeholders' conference open. He said that the focus of the conferences is "Public Procurement Reforms in Nigeria: The Search for Transparency and Value for Money," adding that "the Abuja Conference is designed for stakeholders in the public sector to make their inputs into the Bill. Participants will be drawn from all arms of the public service, as well as members of the public."
