Customs Buries N3.8m Turkey By Francis Ugwoke and Bukola Akande About 1,025 cartons of turkey seized from smugglers and valued at N3.8 million were yesterday buried by the Nigeira Customs Service in Lagos. The food items were seized last week Friday on Ijebu Ode along as they were being taken to the Eastern part of the country in a luxury bus and three other vehicles. Customs Area Controller, Federal Operations Unit, Alhaji Musa Daura, told newsmen that the goods were seized by his men on patrol. Daura said that the drivers of the vehicles took to their heels when the discovery was made by the Customs, adding that initially, they had refused to stop for a search. According to him, the anti-smuggling team had to short at the tyre of the bus before the driver was forced to stop. The Customs Controller disclosed that the Service has discovered that smugglers now use luxury buses in their nefaruious activities. Appealing to the owners of such buses to caution their drivers, Daura warned that the Service will not fail to bring to book any transporter who connive with smugglers to carry prohibited items.
