NOA Set to Arrest Kid-Hawkers Abia From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia Worried by the increasing incidence of school drop-outs amongst the youth and child abuse in the South-east geo-political zone, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Abia state has said it would soon commence the arrest of children of school age found hawking during school hours. The Abia State Director of the Agency, Chief Iheanyi Nwosu announced the decision in Umuahia while briefing newsmen on the on-going sensitisation programme by the agency in support of the tuition free education policy of the state government. Nwosu explained that his agency was liaising with the Ministry of Justice to secure the legal instrument to prosecute parents of the affected children. He pointed out that with the free education policy of the government at primary and secondary school levels, parents have no excuse to allow their children and wards engage in street trading and hawking. He warned that unless something urgent was done to reverse the negative trend of school drop-out amongs the youths, the situation may lead to a point of self-marginalisation of the people of the south-east in the country's polity.
