Lagos Restates Commitment to Free Healthcare Lagos By Ndubuisi Ugah Lagos State Government yesterday, said it is committed to delivering free healthcare facilities and measures that would allow the citizenry benefit fully from the policy. Speaking at the Grand-finale of the 2004 Child Health Week in Lagos, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan, said the occasion was unique because the theme of this year's event: "Healthy Child, the Future of the Nation", was chosen to stress the commitment of Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration "to promote and rehabilitate health care services for our children who are the leaders of tomorrow". He said the state, as a matter of policy, would continue "to deliver free health services as dividends of democracy to children less than 12 years, women of child bearing age, and the elderly, 60 years and above". Pitan explained that last year June, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with other partners had the first Pilot Child Health Week, the foundation upon which this year's outing was built.
