Kalu Advocates Peaceful Co-existence
Abia
Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic or religious background to eschew every act capable of undermining the peaceful co-existence and work together for the development of the country.
Kalu made the call at Dikwa, Bama local government area of Borno state during his turbaning as the Zanna Muamula of Dikwa Emirate by the Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Kyari Ibn El-Kanemi.
He said he has unshakable commitment to the unity, peace and stability of Nigeria, pointing out that this commitment is born out of his conviction that it is only through fruitful exchange of views and ideas in an atmosphere free of bitterness, hatred, bigotry and fanaticism that an enduring consensus could be reached on those problematic issues of our national life.
Kalu said for someone like him who started his political and business life in Maiduguri, Borno State was like a home to him and wondered to what purpose it would serve both him and the Borno people if they should all of a sudden begin to highlight their differences in cultural and ethnic background to the detriment of the cordiality built over the years.
He urged Nigerians to discountenance ploy by discredited and disgruntled political and religious leaders to fan the embers of ethnicit and disunity amongst us and advised all and sundry to empahsise on the things that unite us as a nation, rather than those that divide us
Nigeria, he noted, is a multi-national, multi-cultural society which, by reason of its diversity of cultures and traditions and the differing hopes, fears and aspiratons of various segments of her population has seeds of conflict embedded in it and explained that our diversity could be a source of strength, if we stop dissipating energies on diverse pursuits and start harnessing them for our common good.
He urged Nigerians to learn to live inpeace and harmony in an atmosphere devoid of mutual suspicion and hatred for the interest of the country.
