Adamawa: 'Court Verdict, a Plus for Democracy'
From Abel Orih in Yola
The people of Adamawa State have described the recent Appeal Court verdict which upturned the election of Governor Boni Haruna as the peoples' verdict and a plan for democracy.
Commenting on the verdict, an Igbo leader and sports philanthropist, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said as far as the case was concerned, there was no victor no vanquish except that God provided an opportunity through the ruling for the state to return back to its claim of "Home of Peace and Hospitality."
Eze said he was overwhelmed by the Appeal Court's verdict, saying the judgement was a reflection of the dividends of democracy.
While urging the citizens of the state, especially members of the party to accept the will of God in the verdict, he also described the earlier verdict as scandalous as it was aimed towards destabilizing the peaceful nature of the state.
He said "now that the court has defended the election of governor Boni Haruna, he should be allowed now to work for the people, stressing that even the governor himself appreciates the people's solidarity for him and ready to satisfy their yearnings and aspirations."
The PDP chieftain, however, cautioned against members of the PDP mimicking the oppositions over the verdict, which he said could affect the peaceful nature of the state.
According to him, "at least for the interest of peace and progress of the entire state, people should regard this case as no victor no vanquishes. This is necessary to bring about the feeling of equal belonging by all the people of the state, after all, the governor has always been saying that he no longer belong to only the PDP, but also all other parties in the state as a father.
In his comment, the Chief of Idoma community, AdaIdoma, Chief Michael Musa, regretted that Justice Zanna verdict only succeeded in retarding the expected rapid development of the state, and therefore, appealed to the people of the state to be calm by supporting government's effort in transforming the state into an enviable one.
He advised Governor Haruna to forgive and forget all that he has experienced as a result of the judgment, adding that he should endeavour to carry everybody along in the execution of his policies.
The traditional ruler who expressed gratitude over the Appeal Court's verdict, advised the all the parties to burry their differences and work towards the well-being of the people, the state in particular and the country in general.
He thanked the Boni administration for relaxing the earlier imposedcurfew in the state capital from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am to 11:00 pm to 6:00 am.
A computer analyst, Mr. Daniel Ali, who also described the judgment as the restoration of people's hope noted that God's time is always the best and shall always prevail, no matter what delay caused by any body.
He appealed to the people to embrace the peace enterprise of the state government, stating that no meaningful progress or growth could be achieved in a chaotic environment.
