Why I Support Power Shift in Delta -Edozien
From Jaiyeola Andrews, in Asaba
Asagba of Asaba, HRH. Obi Chike Edozien has thrown his weight behind the clamour for power shift in the state by both the North and South senatorial districts come 2007.
Edozein who briefed newsmen on the occassion of his 13th coronation anniversary, said there was nothing wrong with the position of Equity 2007, a group agitating for power shift from central to either the South or North senatorial district come 2007. "Equity 2007, they were here on a courtesy call and I addressed this issue. After they presented their case, I thought their demand was reasonable and I support it," he said.
According to him, the reason for his support for power shift in the state was as a result of the processes involved to achieve nation-building, adding that rotation of power was a recurrent development all over the world, and as such Delta State could not be an exception.
Nothing that nothing was wrong in the campaign for power shift, the Asagba of Asaba also noted that the issue was rather a pro-Delta than an anti-Urhobos agitation.
On land acquired in the state capital by the Government under the Land Use Act, he described the Act "as very unjust and any action taken under that Act as oppressive".
Obi Edozien, who lamented the non-payment of compensation by the state government, also appealed to government to have a second look on the matter.
"We can appreciate the acquisition of land for purely government business. However, to acquire land on behalf of individuals many of whom now engage in trading with such lands to the chagrin of the erst-while owners of the land certainly calls for a reconsideration," he averred.
He pointed out that though the ability of Asaba community to embark on self-half efforts in its development drive has suffered a serious set back, but assured that the people would remain undettered.
