AWC: Falcons Hit Dakar Today By Femi Solaja Top female soccer defender Kikelomo Ajayi and 17 others will leave Lagos today for Dakar, the capital of Senegal for the first leg of the African Women's qualifying tournament against the Lioness of Senegal this weekend. The chairman of the Nigeria Football Association female football committee, Alhaja Ayo Omidiran, told THISDAYSports yesterday that five officials would accompany the players, who had been in camp at the National Institute for Sports in the National Stadium in Surulere. The players include goalkeeper Rachael Aiyegba, Maurice Ighalo, Dorcas Ariba, Aishat Yusuf, Ulumma Jerome, Bunmi Kayode, Patience Avre and Cynthia Uwuk. Others in the party include Ijeoma Obi, Titilayo Mekulayo, Julie Ekwenke, Onome Ebi, Christy George, Rachael Asibor, Esohe Oasigbovo, Ropo Ojo and Laurenta Sadoh. In a related development, Alhaja Omidiran suggested that the team should no longer be referred to as 'Falcons' but rather 'African Women Championship Falcons' because the initial tag would make the players to look inferior as a national team. She assured that if the team qualify the country to play in the main championship later this year in South Africa, the players would definitely form the core of the team for the championship.
