'Emulate Zinox Computers, Julius Berger'

The Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a digital laboratory, donated by Zinox Computers, and an Engineering Lecture Theatre and Administrative Block donated by Julius Berger to the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu. The Governor, who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Pedro, in his speech, thanked both corporate persons for what he described as their contribution to the promotion of learning and scholarship in this great school.

Commending the companies, Governor Bola Tinubu, said, "This is indeed a powerful statement of their commitment to always give something back to their host communities. The Government and people of Lagos State would forever be grateful for these wonderful gifts, which would definitely impinge positively on the fortunes of this school and all its products"

Tinubu seized the opportunity to appeal to all wealthy individuals and corporate bodies in Lagos State to emulate this fine exemplary conduct of Zinox Computers and Julius Berger through partnership with the State Government in the task of building a virile state. The Governor said that this call became necessary in view of the obvious fact that Government can no longer solely provide the required fund for the development of infrastructure and provision of social services.

In an earlier address, the Chairman of the 19th LASPOTECH Governing Council; Prof. Abisogun Leigh had spoken in the same vein pointing out that the development of education in Nigeria, and Lagos State in particular, is the business of the citizenry. In other words, all individuals, stakeholders, corporate organizations and other government parastatals have a part to play in the development of education in the country.

Tracing the relationship between Zinox Computers and the Lagos State Polytechnic, Prof. Leigh recalled that the Chairman of Zinox, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh was one of the beneficiaries of the Fellowship Award in 2002. He recalled that Zinox undertook the digitalization of the Computer Science Department in fulfillment of its pledge to provide a Digital Laboratory for the Polytechnic. The Chairman proudly announced that today the Computer Science Department has a Digital Laboratory consisting of fifteen computer systems supported by 15 units of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), a Server, a Notebook, Conference Tables (for the computers), chairs and three national window air-conditioning units. Leigh called on all Fellows to emulate the example of Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Computers and come forward and redeem their pledges.

In his address, Ekeh informed the Polytechnic that he was looking at a long-term relationship based on a spiritual commitment to the promotion of a knowledge and intelligent society. He assured the school that all systems from Zinox enjoy a three-year warranty. He also promised to hasten talks on the Microsoft Certification of the institution.
