CNPP wants INEC scribe sacked
By Uchenna Awom

Conference of
Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) on Wednesday asked the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) to sack, replace or at best sanction its Secretary-General,
who proposed at the National Assembly that some political parties be
de-registered.
In a statement
entitled “CNPP Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” by its
Secretary-General, Maxi Okwu, he said the CNPP had been vindicated by the
declaration of INEC chairman, Dr. Abel Guabadia that the commission has no
powers to deregister political parties, adding that the organised opposition
parties shouted itself hoarse on the issue, when the kite was first flown by
INEC National Commissioner, Professor Maurice Iwu.
Okwu, however, said that Guobadia goofed
again, for saying that INEC would punish parties by withholding funds and not
inviting them to meetings.
