Immigration top job: Nwizu’s deputies may be ruled out

    DANIEL IDONOR, Abuja

DESPITE the scramble by her deputies to succeed deceased Immigration Comptroller-General (CG), Lady Uzoamaka Nwizu, indications are that a much younger element may be appointed to the coveted seat.

The scenario may emerge as official records show that the four top contenders, all of them Deputy Comptrollers-General (DCGs) are due for retirement latest late next year.

Competent sources in the service told Daily Champion that of the four DCGs, two are already billed for retirement this year after having put in the mandatory 35 years of service while the other two would retire early next year.

The most senior contender, Mr S. A. Adeniyi (who is the DCG Administration and Finance) and who hails from Osun State is to retire next month while the acting CG, Musa Baraya is set to retire early next year.

Also to officially retire this year, precisely in November, is DCG Fidelis Nworfor, from Imo State, while DCG Hussein Malinta, from Katsina State, is also expected to bow out late next year.

Also due for retirement is Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG), Muktar Usman, from Katsina State, who is expected to leave service May 2, 2005.

It was also gathered that more than half of the 15 serving ACGs have bad records in their files, ranging from reports of alleged financial malpractices, gross misconduct and even ritual actualities.
