News Opinion Features Sports Chic Faith Personage Magazine Interview Business Week Sunday Politics Ecowas Report Family Line Babangida's son holds Borno hostage RAYMOND GUKAS, Maiduguri BORNU State capital, Maiduguri, came to a virtual stand-still yesterday as the gleaming wedding of Mohammad Babangida son of former military president pulled on of the largest personages in the North in recent memory. The glittering wedding between Mohammad and Hayiya Rahma Yakolo Indimi, daughter of a multi million business tycoon was attended by ten former heads of state in Nigeria and beyond, including top political notchers across party divide. Leading top dignitaries at the society wedding were the groom's father Gen. Babangida and Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. The highway leading to Alhaji Indimi's house, venue of the wedding was closed to traffic for about three hours while heavy presence of security personnel both uniformed and plain clothes was visible. I attendance was former interim president, Chief Ernest Shonekan and governors of about 10 states cut ting across all the political parties of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) amongst others. Others are the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Bello Masari, Arab nations ambassadors serving in Nigeria as well as friends and well wishers from the U.S.A, Canada, Germany, China and others. Also in attendance were a one time presidential aspirant in the PDP and governor of old Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as well as former military governors who served under the various military regimes. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Martins Agwai, Minister of Education, Agriculture and a one time Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Murtala Nyako were on hand to add colour to the occasion. Also, Alhaji Bashir Tofa, former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) was in attendance while the immediate past governor of Borno State, Alhaji (Dr.) Mala Kachallah was co-host of the occasion.
