Kano deputy gov alleges assassination plot

No fewer than 20 heavily equipped mobile policemen have
been drafted to the official residence of Kano State Deputy Governor Magaji
Abdullahi, following an alleged plot to assassinate him.
His private homes have also been heavily fortified with
fierce looking gun men from the state mobile police squadron.
Visitors to both the official and private homes are
screened before gaining access either to him or members of his family. His
personal staff are not left out of the search.
Abdullahi on Friday wrote to the police alleging that
Chadian rebels have been contracted to eliminate him for a fee.
He said mercenaries had alreadyleft Maiduguri, their base,
and were heading for Kano to execute the plan.
One of his aides who did not want his name in print said
the development is connected with the growing feud within the executive.
Political leaders and other stakeholders in Kano have
reportedly tried in vain to reconcile the feuding parties but the state
governor Ibrahim Shekarau insists that members of the state executive enjoy a
good working relationship with the deputy governor.
Police authorities confirmed at the weekend that they have
received his complaint and that it is been treated with dispatch.
A police source said security has been beefed up around
him, adding: “We have
deployed over 20 additional police and mobile policemen to support the security
strength already on the ground both at the private and the official residences
of the deputy governor.
