The convicted persons are awaiting  amputation at the Bauchi prisons. The convicts had been languishing  in jail for more than a year without a  word from government. Mrs Aisha Hassan-Baba, the  Director-General of the Council on a   visit to the prison said  it was wrong for the people to be  kept in detention without the execution  of their sentences. A vividly disturbed Hassan-Baba, said  keeping them in prison was an additional  punishment, contrary to the principles  of democracy and fairness. She assured that she would personally  write to Gov. Ahmadu Mu’azu and enquire  about the circumstances leading to their  present predicament. Mr Mohammed Uthman, the Controller of  the prisons, told the Director-General that the convicts could not appeal  against their sentences because it had  not been ratified by the governor. Among the prospective amputees is  45-year-old Hussaini Maidiy, who chopped  off the leg of his wife, Amina Hussaini,  over alleged infidelity. Also on the list were three persons  waiting to be stoned to death for  adultery. Among them is Yunusa  Rafin-Chiyawa a 35-year-old man who  admitted making love to a friend’s  wife about 13 times.
