ABOUT N335,764,500 was generated as revenue in the last one year by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development from charges including premiums, consent and processing fees.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Mobolaji Osomo, made this known in Abuja on Tuesday at a news conference to showcase the activities of the ministry in the past one year.

Osomo said in view of the ministrys determination to complete all abandoned projects, a pilot project involving the completion of 251 units of abandoned three and four bedroom bungalows and duplexes at Obada-Oko, Abeokuta in Ogun State was already undergoing the due process certification for work to begin.

She stressed that 656 units of houses were nearing completion at Gaduwa District in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Osomo said other on-going projects included the relocation of the National Agency for Food, Drug, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) office to Alagbon Close, Ikoyi Lagos, completion of Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum at Onitsha, Anambra State and the rehabilitation of the Federal Secretariat buildings in 22 states.

Speaking on the provision of certificates of occupancy (C of O) to house owners, Osomo said the ministry had ordered and received 100,000 C of Os from the National Security and Printing Company for the acceleration of its issuance for all lands and houses allocated by the government.

She explained that parastatals under the ministry have been repositioned to assist the ministry.

Earlier, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Chief Chukwuemeka Chikelu said although the ministry was new, it had within a short time been able to tell Nigerians the number of houses owned by the Federal Government nationwide.

Represented by a Director of Domestic Publication, Dr. C. N. Agbonle at the occasion, Chikelu stressed that the greatest achievement of the ministry in last one year was the sale of the Abuja Games Village through the open ballot system which he noted was transparent.

In his speech, the Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Izunacho Osita, appealed to the minister to harness all the manpower and resources available in providing houses for Nigerians within the shortest possible time.

Osita said at this time of the nations development, the legislature was now romancing with the executive in a collaborative effort in providing the dividends of democracy to the people under a peaceful atmosphere.

He promised that the National Assembly intensify efforts to increase the revenue needed for the ministry to accomplish its mandate in next years appropriation.
