Obasanjo Lauds Technological Progress From Josephine Lohor in Abuja President Olusegun Obasanjo said yesterday that he felt proud and encouraged about the progress the country was making in the area of technology. At the corporate presentation of eTranzact at State House, Abuja, the President noted that with the breakthrough achieved by this novel electronic payment method, the bad name which fraud, drug and human trafficking had created for Nigeria, would begin to gradually change. He congratulated Mr Valentine Obi, the brain behind eTranzact on his achievement, adding that the country could not afford to be left behind in the areas of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and bio-technology. The President also urged Nigerians to explore the manufacturing of both soft and hard ware components of computers locally. The chairman of eTranzact International, Mr Felix Ohiwerei, had noted that the product which was wholly conceived in Nigeria by a Nigerian and acknowledged internationally, would enable the user to pay for goods and service without going to the bank and using the internet, land or mobile phones. In his presentation, Mr Obi said that eTranzact was the first of its type in the world designed to eliminate fraud and reduce the use of cash in business transactions.
