FG Develops Indigenous Sugar Technology From Andy Ekugo in Abuja Federal Government has through the Small Scale Enterprises (SMEs) developed an indigenous brown sugar manufacturing plant capable of producing one million tons of sugar annually. Already an estimated N4 billion is projected from the new industry per annum. This was revealed at a press conference in Abuja by the Director-General and Chief Executive of the National Office For Technological Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) Dr. David Okongwu. According to Okongwu, the new plants, which will be launched in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would have spin offs that can lead to other industries and cost N10 million through indigenous efforts to complete. Meanwhile, in order to bridge the gap between the importation and production of sugar in Nigeria, the Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner Isoun will on Thursday next week commission an indigenous technology for the production of brown sugar at Kwali Local Government of the Federal Capital Territory.
