ANPP Chieftain Wants National Grid Project Terminated From John Iwori in Yenagoa Following the failure of Pivot Engineering Company Limited to connect Bayelsa State to the national grid more than three years after it was mobilised to site, a chieftain of the opposition All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Douyi Douglas Naingba has called on President Olusegun Obasenjo to terminate the contract without further delay. Created on October 1, 1996 by the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, Bayelsa remains the only state in the federation yet to be connected to the national grid. Residents of the oil and gas rich state depend solely on the Kolo Creek/Nun River Gas Turbine Power Station, Imiringi for their energy needs. This prompted President Obasanjo to award a $56,910,650 contract to Pivot Engineering Company Limited on September 13, 2000. Apart from bush clearing at its propose sub-station at Tombia, nothing tangible has been done in Bayelsa State by the company.
