FCT: Osomo Faults C of Os Withdrawal From Andy Ekugo in Abuja Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mrs. Mobolaji Osomo, has condemned the announced withdrawal of all Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os) issued from inception of the Federal Capital City (FCT) by the Minister, Malam Nasir el-Rufai. Osomo said this in Abuja yesterday during a ministerial briefing to announce the activities of the Housing and Urban ministry. Reacting to a question on the effect of the withdrawal of C of Os on the Federal Government's new housing policy, Osomo said the radical withdrawal of the C of Os may cause a lot of confusion in the country because according to her, some of the C of Os in question have been used as collaterals by their owners in various banks for loans and doubted if the banks would willingly relinquish such C of Os to their owners considering the risk involved. She however assured that she would hold talks with the FCT minister to find a more pragmatic approach to the exercise "so that we will not misdirect the economy of this nation because a lot depend on these C of Os". Reacting also on the issue of allegations that some FHA are distortions of the original master plan of FCT, she cautioned that since the FCDA and the FHA are statutory organisations of the Federal Government, FCT should not wait until the structures are put in place before protesting. "If FCDA as the administrator of the land in FCT sees a distortion, they should not wait until the place is fully developed before announcing and bulldozing. That is wrong.
