Impeachment: We'll be Fair to Abia Deputy Gov - Panel Chairman From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia Chairman of the seven-man judicial panel investigating the allegations against the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr Chima Nwafor, Mr Emmanuel Nwonye has assured that the panel would discharge its assignment diligently with the fear of God. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the panel in Umuahia, Nwonye warned against false presentation of facts and unnecessary delays by lawyers and witnesses. He advised politicians to leave the investigative panel alone to do its job, stating that members of the panel intended to function without political interference. The chairman advised persons with useful information to come forward with such evidence, adding that though the panel would operate according to law, it would not be held up by the intricacies of the law. He emphasised that the panel was only an investigative one and not a law court, and therefore, would be guided by certain procedures of law. Nwonye restated the panel's commitment to fair hearing in its procedures and urged parties involved in the impeachment process to present their cases without fear of intimidation. Responding, Counsel to the embattled Deputy Governor, Elder Chibuike Nwokuku said he believe the panel made up of three clergymen and three lawyers would do a good job to the best of their conscience. According to Nwokuku, the Deputy Governor, was absent at the inaugural meeting following his official trip to Abuja.
