We've Reduced Illegal Bunkering - Navy By Ben Nwabuwe Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC), Rear Admiral Samuel Kolawole has said the Nigerian Navy has reduced the amount lost to crude oil theft annually from $57 million to $10 million annually. He stated this yesterday at Naval Base Apapa, Lagos, while briefing members of the Senate Committee on Navy who were on three-day tour of Naval establishments in Lagos. Kolawole explained that his men are combatant ready to reduce bunkering to the bearest minimum, stating that his men have given their loyalty to fight the battle. "Our aim is to make sure that the nation's economy is not impoverish by smugglers. I have told my men on how to fight this battle and they have given me their loyalty." The FOC explained that the Navy need about N40 billion annually to maintain its facilities. The Navy called on the committee to assist in the replacement of its aging workshop and shore supply facilities, replacement/ upgrading of the weapons system onboard the ships, training of personnel in specialised areas. At Navy town Ojo, the Committee was taken round the barracks, while the Comman-ding Officer NNS WEY, Captain Olatumbosu Odumosu, briefed the Committee on the accommodation problem facing the officers and men of the Nigerian Navy.
