Making the suggestion, Mr Adelekan Charles, executive director, Corporate Services of Vava International Limited, also noted that only a long-term plan would guarantee the future of the energy sector in the country. Speaking recently at a stakeholders forum on electricity generation and supply organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Kano Branch, Charles said Nigeria, with a population of over 120 million people has a comparative advantage in terms of market. "The future plan is actually to have a West African network with all our transmission lines linked. "It has been found all over the world that the best and quickest way of improving power supply is to run your network on a regional basis," he said. Citing an example of South Africa Charles pointed out that "the South African power pool is very strong. You can be using electricity in Johannesburg now and that electricity is coming from Congo, because the whole network is linked." He said the vital linkage between adequate power supply and economic growth is very critical to the economic advancement of the West African sub-region, adding that investors would be more attracted to a region with a pool already on ground.
