Egwu Tasks Financial Institutions on Economic Devt Ebonyi From Chinedu Eze in Abakaliki Ebonyi State Government has charged financial institutions in the country to assist the state in its effort to uplift the standard of living of the people through economic development. Addressing members of the Association of Nigeria Development Financial Institutions (ANDFI) who paid a courtesy visit to Governor Sam Egwu on Tuesday in Abakaliki, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Nweke Ozo, who represented the governor, said there was no doubt that the state was economically backward but it was obsessed with the desire to develop and would need the support of financial institutions that are development oriented and welcomed their mission in the state. The SSG stressed that the young state was in a hurry to catch up with other states in terms of development and would explore all opportunities available to its disposal to achieve this important objective, noting that their invaluable advice and ideas would be needed by the state to map out economic development plans. Ozo said he was happy that the association was identifying with the rural dwellers through the establishment of agricultural banks, which he said would assist Ebonyi people who are predominantly farmers. Ozo assured the association members that the state government would identify with and encourage their good ideas to help boost the state's economy and urged them to immediately start executing these ideas so that people would appreciate the association's efforts and noted that their economic development plan was in tandem with state's economic objectives.
