Pro-IBB Group Elects Chairman in C/River From Amby Uneze in Calabar An organisation known as the Eagle Group championing the election of former President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babanginda as the next President in 2007 in Cross River State has elected Hon. Innocent Oke as its chairman in the state. In a delegate election conducted by the group in Calabar, the three senatorial zones of the state sent five delegates each, where Oke scored 10 votes out of the fifteen cast. Oke, a member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, representing Etung Constituency, said the group has the sole intention to usher in Babanginda as the next president. He commended the leadership qualities of the former President in making it possible for Nigeria to be a great country in terms of his foreign policy and steadfastness, adding that IBB was firm and knows what to do at any piont in time. Oke contended that IBB's attitude to governance and his openness was second to none as he would make a good president. He said, "we are not looking at the person, we are looking at his attitude and acceptability in the entire country. Oke debunked the notion that Nigerians do not want retired military Generals again as President, considering the "high handedness" of President Olusegun Obasanjo, himself a retired military General, saying that once "you have resigned or retired from the military, you automatically become a civilian." "Immediately you are out of the force, you automatically become a civilian and by then you have joined the civil society group, but intrigues in politics puts attachment as military civilian," the legislator said.
