Campbell Makes 200m Darren Campbell has been selected to run for Britain in the 200m at the Olympics in Athens next month. Campbell had qualified for the 100m at the Olympic trials in Manchester at the weekend but withdrew from the 200m final with hamstring and rib injuries. But the 200m silver medallist from Sydney four years ago was chosen to compete in both distances. Paula Radcliffe, Denise Lewis, Steve Backley and Kelly Holmes were also named in a 47-strong British team. It will be the smallest squad Britain has taken to a Games since Montreal in 1976. More athletes could be picked next week, however, if they meet the qualifying standard, including long jumper Chris Tomlinson and American-born 400m runner Malachi Davis. Lewis' gold in the heptathlon in Sydney was one of six athletics medals for Britain. But she will only compete in Athens if she passes a fitness test on the foot injury which she aggravated in Manchester. Radcliffe, who has indicated that she will concentrate on the marathon, has also been selected for the 10,000m as a fall-back option. It will be a tough call to match our performance in Sydney GB team leader Max Jones And Holmes has been picked for the 1500m and 800m, although she intends to focus on the longer distance. Decathlete Dean Macey, who has yet to achieve the qualifying standard, will attempt to do so this weekend.
