Germany 2006: Taribo Lobbies for Eagles Invitation By Wale Ajimotokan Defence strong man Taribo West is keen on making a Super Eagles return after a knee injury cut short his aspiration just before the last Nations Cup in Tunisia. The central back has not been with a club since he was released from his contract by Partizan Belgrade at the end of last season. But despite the injury which seems to have finally put paid to his international career Taribo has not given up altogether on a possible return to the main core of the national team. THISDAY Sports learnt that Taribo has maintained constant touch with the NFA of late hinting on his willingness to accept an invitation if offered. It, however, remains doubtful if Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu will still consider the former Inter Milan star as a key member of his structure considering the emergence of a new band of central defenders jostling for places in the national team. The Eagles defence line has been stabilised in the absence of the rasta haired Taribo by the intrepid character displayed by the likes of Joseph Yobo, Joseph Enakha-rire and Seyi Olajengbesi. Taribo was in the frame to making the Eagles team to Tunisia until an injury at the team's training camp in Faro, Portugal two weeks to the start of the tournament cost him his place. If Chukwu eventually aceeds to Taribo's overture a fresh opportunity will enable the highly experienced player underline his indepth defensive character. Taribo made a huge impact at the last World Cup in Korea/Japan ending the campaign as one of Nigeria's best players even though he was not considered an important part of the team before the start of the World Cup.
