Cadbury Quadrangular Returns to Lagos
By Wale Ajimotokan in Abuja

The Cadbury Cup has returned to its original quadrangular format after the organisers expanded its scope in the past two editions.

Four clubs including Kano Golf Club, Ibadan Golf Club, Ikoyi Club 1938 and Air Assault will battle for the national title in Lagos from June 30-August 1.

The Cadbury Quadrangular has become a feature in the country's golf calendar since its first edition in 1999 at Ikoyi Club 1938.

All the four clubs that will present teams for the final earned their invitations on account of their record in previous editions.

The four invitees with the exception of Kano are former winners of the prestigious club championship.

Ikoyi won the first two versions at home in 1999-2000. Ibadan won the third edition in 2001 while Air Assault held the title at the final held in Kaduna 2002 before recording an encore at home last year.

Though Kano are without a title they have remained sterling at the national level since they made their debut at Ibadan three years ago.

The chairman tournament organising committee Chief Akin Odunsi remarked yesterday that the quadrangular format has come to stay adding the national finale will now alternate between Ikoyi Club 1938 and IBB International Club because of their green holes.

Each team is expected to present 20 players including four women.

A new trophy will be competed for after Air Assault won the original trophy for keeps last year.

Odunsi also said that there would be competition for veterans as well as club captains whose teams are not participating in the tournament.

Cadbury's corporate Affairs Manager Gbenga Adebija said that the tourment is a natural expression of the company's acknowlegded track record of excellence.
