More facts have emerged into the intrigues that led to the exit of former executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Council, Mr. Deji Tinubu even as the State Commissioner for Sports and Social Development Mr Opeyemi Bamidele, reconstituted the board of sports council and that of the state football association yesterday.
The commissioner gave an insight to why the mistake of the past must be avoided if the new board, which had the blessings of the Executive Governor of the State, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, must be supported to succeed.
He explained that the position of an executive chairman as been scraped because part of the complaints by members of the previous board was that the immediate past chairman became too powerful to be controlled and was unable to carry other members along in the formulation of policies on sports development in the state.
"We really appreciate your concern on why the new helm's man should not have the same statures of the immediate past chairman. But we are acting on the problems such position gave to individuals who have duties to perform but the situation they found themselves will not allow them to be effective.
"I've invited both the new chairman and his deputy and explained their schedules to them and both accepted to work within the limitations and dont forget that we are in democratic era and to be autocratic will amount to be counterproductive", he explained.
The new board of the council has Basket ball coach Simeon Agboola Pinhero as the chairman and Wale Oladunjoye as the vice chairman.
Other members of the board are; Alhaji Ajibade Balogun, Ayo Benjamin, Tayo Popoola, Gloria Obajimi, Daniel Obajimi, Micheal Ayopetu and Omowunmi Edet. In a related development, Mr Taiwo Afini was announced as the new chairman of the state football association and will replaced Mr Deji Okoya-Thomas and other members of the new board are Deacon Femi Tella, Chief Haruna Ilerika, Frank Ilaboya, Funmi Iyanda, Olu Olagunju and Issac Sowemimo.
