MASSOB tells Biafrans to stay at home Aug 26

By Okey Maduforo,

Correspondent, Awka

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Anambra State has urged all Biafrans to stay at home on Thursday, August 26.

In a statement in Awka, the organisation said the stay-at-home order is part of MASSOB’s fourth stage in the struggle aimed at boosting the struggle for Biafra. It added that this would be a continuous exercise until Nigeria quits Biafran territory that it has occupied for more than 37 years.

Signed by MASSOB’s Acting Director of Information, Mr. Uchenna Madu, the statement said the action is also aimed at showing that Biafrans need their independence from Nigeria and to prove that membership of MASSOB is not limited to artisans, okada riders, market men and women.

“We also want to show that irrespective of Nigeria Police harassment, arrest, killings, detention and shooting of non-violent MASSOB members and easterner in general, MASSOB still remains undeterred and is more committed to the struggle. MASSOB as the last hope towards the survival of Ndi-Igbo and Easterners in general want to prove that we are in control of the Eastern region - Biafra,” the statement said.

It added that MASSOB is using the action to notify the international communities that Biafrans have chosen to stay on their own as an independent sovereign state of Biafra.

According to the statement, the climax of the exercise would be an international press conference and a message of goodwill to be delivered to more than 42 million Biafrans by Chief Ralph Uwazurike, the MASSOB leader.
