A pastor of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement
has given a graphical account of how his seven-year old daughter
was allegedly raped by his landlady’s son.
Pastor Tony Eweema gave the account while being led in evidence
by Sergeant Augustine Aghagbon at Ejigbo Magistrate Court
in Lagos Wednesday, in case of rape against Oluwafemi Bamigbade,
21.
The pastor told the court that his daughter (name withheld)
was washing on January 5 at about 8.30pm at the backyard in
preparation for their super when she was allegedly cornered
by the accused person.
"I saw Oluwafemi through window louvres urinating behind
my daughter. I was surprised when Femi went to the girl and
carried her to the wall even when the girl was shouting. I
did not react immediately because I wanted to see what will
happened," he said.
The pastor said it was when the accused person was allegedly
committing the offence and he shouted.
According to Eweema, who is also a Licensed Customs agent,
the accused did not give a dam about his presence nor did
he show remorse for his alleged sin later. Instead, Eweema
quoted him as saying that "he has given me quit notice
and refused to go, whatever I see I should take since I refused
to pack out. That is to say since I cannot pay in cash I should
pay in kind."
Eweema further alleged the accused had few months back took
his wife, sister to bed, adding that he couldn’t take
any action but to send her packing because she was of age.
Besides, he said when the mother examined the girl, she allegedly
confessed that the accused had made love to her several times.
"The scripture which says all things worketh for good
for them that believeth did not hold my anger. I went straight
to the police to report the matter and consequently, he was
arrested and detained at Ejigbo police station where the case
was charged to court."
The defence counsel, Mr O. D Adeleke, while cross examining
Eweema who stood in for his daughter in the matter, expressed
surprised that a lovely father like him could just watch his
daughter being raped by a 21 year-old as claimed by him in
his evidence in-chief without a proportionate response.
He urged the court to dismiss the allegation as it lacks merit
and was unfounded. The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adefulire adjourned
the case till September 9, 2004 for further hearing.
