France Reaffirms Support for Nigeria From Iyefu Adoba in Abuja French Ambassador to Nigeria, Yves Gauduel, has reaffirmed France support to the Federal Government in its bid to improve the country's economic and financial situation. Ambassador Gaudeul who spoke Wednesday night during the celebration of France's national day in Abuja, acknowledges the task to be accomplished, and said France has total confidence in the Nigerian government to achieve this challenge. "We recognise the technical and also psychological difficulties to be overcomed. However, we know that the good men and women who are at the head of this endeavour are driven by a profound faith in the future of their country and by an exceptional intellectual courage," Gaudeul said. France, he added, is following the struggle with keen interest and had the opportunity on several occasions to reaffirm its support for this undertaking, which regards not only Nigeria, but also all other West African countries through the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS). Stating that France will not relent in its support for Africa, the Ambassador said, "we will, together with European Union do what needs to be done to ensure the alleviation of suffering and to ensure that Africa can realise its aspiration to moral and material dignity for each and every one of its inhabitants." France's national day, popularly known as Bastille Day, marks a major event in European history when French people revolted against an absolute monarchical system and established a republican regime.
