Atiku Advises Authors on Children's Books From Josephine Lohor in Abuja Vice President Atiku Abubakar has asked Nigerian writers to present Nigeria's rich culture and history while writing books for children. The Vice President who made the plea yesterday while donating an additional N1 million to endow the annual Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA)/Atiku Abubakar Children Literature Prize, noted that "we need to pay serious attention to the quality of reading materials made available to our young ones. "I challenge our writers to explore our rich cultures and plumb the depth of our history as well as our present situation for materials which can inspire, excite, entertain and teach our children our cherished values. It pains me to see my children and grand children reading books which have no relevance to our lives," he added. In a letter to ANA President and Secretary, Professor Olu Obafemi, and Nduka Otiono, respectively, Atiku said that what motivated him to endow the prize was his passion for children's literature.
