Lawyer Slumps, Dies in Ikeja Courtroom By Abimbola Akosile A Lagos lawyer, Mr. Emma Ogbonna Agu, slumped and died in an Ikeja courtroom yesterday before he could make any presentation for his client. Agu, alleged to be in his late thirties, was said to have died suddenly without outward display of illness, while trying to make his submission. Agu, who until his death was a lawyer with Odoroye Chambers in Ojo, Lagos, was according to checks, in Court No. 3 (Probate) of Ikeja High Court yesterday appearing in respect of a matter involving his client, one Balogun Yekini Ajanaku, who had sued the Lagos State Attorney-General, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Area Commander, Area F Police Command, Inspector Tunde and one Mathew Ejiofor, over alleged harassment. At the Ikeja court premises yesterday, Agu, who had appeared before Justice Leslie Gordon Alaba Marsh in the matter, was told that he would have to comply with the new civil procedure rules before his matter could go on. He was said to have gone to make photocopies of some processes before rushing back to Marsh's court to continue his case, which came through an ex-parte application. However, on return, eye-witness account revealed that Agu, suing for enforcement of Ajanaku's fundamental human rights, suddenly collapsed after uttering, 'milord'. All frantic attempts by court personnel to revive him had proved abortive and he was rushed to nearby Ikeja General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead and his corpse deposited at the mortuary.
