Govt Approves N30m Science Tools for Schools Ondo From Funso Muraina in Akure Ondo State government has approved N30 million for the purchase of science equipment for distribution to secondary schools classified as science schools in the state. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Information, Sports, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Tola Aworh, while briefing newsmen yesterday in Akure. She said presently, 88 schools were so designated, but the council has also approved another 36 to be classified as science schools. The commissioner also announced the approval of capital spending for the Ministry of Agriculture to the tune of N60.68 million while N16.4 million was approved for Ministry of Justice for this quarter. Aworh said government inspected the investment corporation where special adviser to the governor on agriculture and poverty alleviation showed them a cocoa tree which had been producing only five pods of cocoa now has 250 pods due to hand pollination. She said if the innovation is embraced by farmers, the cocoa yield in the state would increase significantly. Fielding questions from reporters, Aworh alleged that the Adefarati-led administration owed contractors N2.6 billion. She also disclosed the desire of the state government to reconstruct the Erekesan Market within 12 months, saying efforts were in progress to commence work.
