Ogun PDP Chief Counsels LG Chairmen
By Ibrahim Sule
An ex-officio member of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Muse Awoyemi has urged local government council chairmen to deliver on their electoral promises.
He gave the advice when he went round to see projects embarked upon by Ikenne Local Government at the weekend.
Awoyemi stressed that this had become important in order to further cement the gains of democracy in the country.
According to him, being the third tier of government closest to the people, the councils should feel challenged to embark on people-oriented projets.
He said he was very proud of the local council's achievements within just a few days in office, going by the number of projects so far carried out by his administration.
Awoyemi listed this to include the construction of about one hundred lock-up shops, poverty alleviation programme, water channelisation programme and micro-credit scheme.
Others, the state PDP ex-officio disclosed, are free distribution of exercise books to schools, reduction of the council debt profile, improvement of internal revenue and completion of abandoned water projects.
He counselled resident of the local government to continue to support the efforts of the council to ensure better performance.
He said this had become expedient in view of the fact that the council cannot achieve its objectives, especially in the area of projects, without the payment of rates and taxes.
Responding, the council boss thanked Chief Awoyemi for taking the pains to embark on a tour of the councils' projects.
Such initiative, he said, was a morale booster for the council, which he said, was also a challenge for them to perform better.
Otemolu who praised the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for his support, promised that the council will strive for better performance.
