' I Knew of Plot to Axe Me' By Duro Ikhazuagbe Vivian Chukwuemeka's dominance of the women's discusses and shot put events were never in doubt even before last weekend's Mobil Trials. Since 1998 Vivian has remained unbeaten at the Mobil Championships. The 2004 edition was equally not a different ball game. If the decision of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to exclude her from Athens caught many napping, the massively fleshed Chukwuemeka was the least surprised. "I didn't want to come here to participate at this meet. I was told that AFN officials have made up their minds to exclude me from the Athens Olympics. So, I was the least surprised when they (the AFN) insisted that I won't go because I didn't make the unreasonably AFN standard," reasoned the shot putter. Chukwuemeka told THISDAYSports that she was urged to come for the trials by her coach who believed that if she won the events (discuss and shot put) she would be selected. "That was why I did not compete in the discuss event. I wanted to put all my efforts in the shot put so that I can be sure of winning to be in the team, but now that I have been excluded good luck to them. For me, going to Athens is not a do or die matter. I still have future games to look forward to," concluded the Nigerian champion.
