Junior Tigers Depart for Senegal Friday By Pius Ayinor The junior national basketball team will leave Lagos next Friday, July 23rd for Dakar, Senegal ahead of the African Junior Men's Championship starting off same weekend at the venue. The Chairman, Technical Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Dr. Adamu Ahmed told THISDAYSports that the team's travelling arrangements were geared for the date. "The team should leave for Dakar on Friday (23rd) just in time for the opening ceremony. Every arrangement is geared towards that date," Adamu said. The exact departure time and airline were yet to be worked out. The other part of the programme means that the players should be in Lagos on Thursday prior to their departure. The players entered camp at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria since the first week of June. The 12 players being managed by Sq. Ldr. Sani Ahmed and Adeka Daudu will be in Senegal for the African qualifiers towards the World Junior Championship. The world Under-20 men tournament is billed for Argentina next year. The Junior Tigers booked the slot for the African final stage following their performance at the African Zone Three tournament held in Burkina Faso last May. The national juniors won the competition after defeating all opponents. Niger, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic and the hosts Burkina Faso featured. The final game featured Nigeria against Cote d' Ivoire.
